The Top 2024 Bathroom Trends
Jan 08, 2025We Look Back on 2024 Bathroom Trends that are taking us into the New Year
From “Spotify Wrapped” to 2024 Improved, we all love a good year-in-review. At Improveit, our design team takes time every year to look back on the design choices that resonated most with homeowners in the previous year, and we’ve spotted some interesting 2024 bathroom trends that will help drive design choices in the New Year.
Let’s look at the bath and shower trends 2024 brought us, and see what they might mean for your next bathroom remodel.
Shower Trends 2024: Reining Favorite Colors Stay on top

White and Calcutta marble (a white-and-gray marble design, also called Santorini White) dominated bathroom remodels again in 2024. Together, these two neutral tones accounted for nearly 35% of all shower designs thanks to their timeless look that’s easy to pair with any finishes and décor. White edged out Calcutta for the top spot this year. However, Calcutta’s eye-catching veining continues to be a favorite for homeowners looking for elegance without overwhelming patterns.

2024 Bathroom Trends: Warm Tones Make a Comeback
While gray and white dominated the conversation in 2023, we saw 2024 shower trends return to preferences toward warm tones in shower wall colors. Travertine, Silver-White marble, and Tuscany rounded our the top five most popular shower wall colors for 2024. This marks a shift back toward creamy, earthy aesthetics compared to 2023’s cooler trends.

Not only are warmer colors making a comeback in general, but Travertine is gaining back some lost ground. In 2022, Travertine (also known as White Travertine) was used in 7% of bathroom remodels, but that share dropped to 5.2% last year. Among 2024 shower trends, Travertine is back up to 6.5%, followed by Tuscany and Silver White marble at 4.8% of projects each. The increased popularity of these two colors has displaced other gray-and-white tones like Lightning, which has dropped out of the top 5 this year.

Master Shower Ideas: Dark Grout Lines, Satin Finishs & Grab Bars
Tied for sixth place in our 2024 shower trends lineup were Othello and Grayline, two versatile options that feature white walls accented by darker grout lines for a sophisticated contrast. Othello’s black grout lines bring a bold, modern look, while Grayline’s gray grout lines offer a softer take on this trend.
Beyond wall colors, homeowners gave a lot of consideration to their fixture selections in 2024.
For faucets, showerheads, grab bars, and other fixtures, brushed nickel continues to be the most popular finish for bath and shower fixtures, selected 39% of the time, followed by chrome in 32% of projects. Matte black is gaining ground this year, used in more than 15% of projects.

Finally, for the first time in 2024, we took a closer look at the most popular bathroom accessories used in bath and shower designs. Grab bars are by far the most popular accessory, used in more than 37% of projects, while flooring – a new Improveit offering this year – was close behind in 31% of bathroom remodels. Shower seats were selected for 10.9% of projects, and homeowners updated their bathroom designs with vanities and lighting to round out the top bathroom accessories for 2024.
Bringing 2024 Bathroom Trends into Your Next Project
This year’s trends align with many of the remodeling predictions we’ve made for 2025. Here are some ideas to incorporate these trends into your remodel:
- Mix Neutrals & Color: Warmer shower wall colors like Travertine or Tuscany will pair beautifully with rich 2025 Color of the Year selections.
- Customize with Style & Safety: Include your favorite bath and shower accessories to customize your space while also adding safety. Grab bars, bench seats, and hand-held showerheads are ideal for aging-in-place and universal design.
- Add Accents with Grout & Finishes: Darker grout lines and contrasting finishes on shower fixtures can be a great design statement. Consider Othello or Grayline’s darker grout colors to make your shower walls pop, and accent designs with matte black or oil-rubbed bronze finishes.
