Easy Cabinet Makeover Creates a Rustic Kitchen on a Budget
Rustic wood kitchen cabinets warm up the tepe’s independence, KY kitchen with a cozy look
When Wendy and Timothy Tepe moved into their home, they knew the kitchen needed an update. The previous owner had painted the cabinets, but over time, the paint began flaking, revealing an uneven finish underneath. “We knew we had to do something,” Wendy shared.
As experienced homeowners, the Tepes were no strangers to working with contractors. In fact, they had previously partnered with Improveit to update a bathroom in their old house, where they lived for 17 years. When they decided to reface their kitchen cabinets, they knew exactly who to call. “The cabinets themselves were in good shape, and we had been to enough home shows to know that refacing is what we wanted,” Wendy said.
With their move bringing them closer to their grandchildren, the kitchen became the heart of their home. “Now our grandchildren come over every week, and we spend time together in the new kitchen!” Wendy shared.
Getting a Rustic Kitchen on a Budget
The Tepes worked with veteran Improveit designer Chris Jones to find the perfect cabinet style. “We wanted to keep the cabinets close to the same color the previous owner had painted them, and Chris helped us find something that warmed it up with a nice wood grain,” Wendy explained.
The finished design replaced the Tepe’s painted cabinets with Improveit’s Outlandia Earth colorway to create rustic wood kitchen cabinets that match the style they were looking for. The cabinet fronts were sanded down and refinished with Outlandia Earth veneer, and all new matching hardwood composite door and drawer fronts were added.
One thing Wendy knew she wanted to change with the cabinet refresh was the door style. “The old cabinet had a recessed cut-out design, and I knew I didn’t want that,” she says. “The smooth door style is so much easier to clean without all the curves and corners.”
Easy Cabinet Makeover with Seamless Installation
When installation day arrived, everything went smoothly. “I was here the whole time, and the installer did a very good job,” Wendy recalled. “He was very informative and let me know what he was doing at every step. It all worked out well—I’m very happy with the job they did.”
Now, with their beautifully refreshed kitchen, the Tepes have a space they love spending time in, especially when their grandchildren visit!
We’re grateful to the Tepe’s for reconnecting with Improveit for a new project in their new home, and look forward to a lifetime of service for their project. Thinking about updating your kitchen? Learn more about our cabinet refacing services and see how you can transform your space.
