Tub-Shower Combo Makes Way for Safe Bathing Walk-In Shower
This 1960s home now has a safe and updated bathroom the homeowner loves
Monica Okey first met Improveit Home Remodeling at the Ohio State Fair, but her project truly began right on her front porch. After a member of Improveit’s Community Engagement team members stopped by her home, Monica was able to schedule her consultation on the spot. Sometimes, the biggest improvements really do start with a simple conversation.
During that consultation, Monica shared that as she’s gotten older, she was starting to feel uneasy stepping in and out of her existing tub-shower combo. Her bathroom, original to her mid-1960s home, featured a peach bathtub, molded surround, and sliding shower doors all of which were dated and showing signs of wear. More importantly, climbing over the tub no longer felt like a safe or comfortable option.
1960s Shower Remodel for Safe Bathing
With safety and ease-of-use top of mind, Monica asked our team to design a walk-in shower, and we were happy to help! After removing the old bathtub and shower surround, we installed a brand-new walk-in shower that keeps the warm, natural feel of the original space while making it far more accessible and easy to maintain.
Monica’s new shower features a crisp white shower base paired with a Pompeii marble surround in a Roman block pattern, blending classic style with a fresh, updated look. For storage and safe-bathing support, she added a matching bench and corner shelves in Pompeii marble. She completed the space with matte black fixtures, including the glass shower door, grab bars, and handheld showerhead. Outside the shower, coordinating matte black accessories—towel bar, towel ring, and robe hook—provide practical storage and visual continuity.
The renovation was finished with new LVT flooring in Carrara Cotton, helping brighten the room and tie everything together.
Altogether, Monica’s new bathroom is lighter, brighter, easier to clean—and safer than ever before. A perfect example of how thoughtful design can help homeowners stay comfortable and confident in their homes for years to come.
