Which Windows Are Best?
Q: How do I know what are the best replacement windows to buy?
A: From just looking at a window, it can be hard to tell one window from another if you don’t know what to look for and what questions to ask.
But, despite appearances, all windows are not created equal. First, there are Builder-Grade windows. These are cheaper windows that builders use on new homes to keep costs as low as possible. These windows have lots of issues, including being made from 100% recycled vinyl, the cheap kind of vinyl that yellows over time.
Then there are Specialty-Grade/Replacement Grade windows. These are definitely a step-up from builder grade quality. But there can still be significant issues, including frames constructed using a surface weld that makes them subject to warping and separation. These windows can also vary a great deal in terms of glass quality. Many times these windows are produced in cookie-cutter style, instead of specifically made for a particular climate.
Then there are the next generation of replacement windows that capitalizes on all the latest technological advances. These windows have T-Core Insulated frames, Low E coated glass with Argon gas between the panes, and non-metal spacers at the edge of the glass to eliminate seal failure.

Q: I saw an ad for $189 windows installed. Why shouldn’t I just get those?
A: The $189 windows aren’t really $189 windows. Once the salesperson comes to your home, they’ll explain that to make the window even close to acceptable, you’ll be needing a number of “upgrades.” Typically, this will get you up to around $700 per window installed.
This type of ‘bait-and-switch’ advertising + the ‘hard sell’ can lead homeowners to make terrible decisions. Even with upgrades, this is still an inferior quality window.

Q: Are the windows you install energy-efficient?
A: Yes they are! All of our windows are Energy Star certified.
Most window companies are going to say their windows are energy efficient. And the truth is, unless you buy an extremely cheap window, most replacement windows are going to be at least a little bit of an upgrade over windows that are older or were lousy builder-grade windows put on a new home.
What really matters is not that your windows are a little energy-efficient, but that they are A LOT energy efficient:
- Do they have a T-Core Insulated Frame?
- Is the glass the right kind for the very hot then very cold climate we live in?
- Are non-metal spacers used to prevent seal failure?

Q: Is your installation guaranteed?
A: Yes. And not just on installation day or 1 to 2 years later. Our workmanship is guaranteed for a lifetime. As long as you’re in the home, our workmanship is guaranteed. Q: Do your windows come with any kind of warranty?
A: Yes, but the truth is every window comes with a warranty. But the warranty that comes with our windows is full coverage for a lifetime. It covers both the window itself and the workmanship.
