A Circleville Accessible Shower with Style
This walk in shower with seat makes showering and caregiving easier for this Circleville family.
When Krista Bower first reached out to Improveit about updating her bathroom, her aging parents were on her mind. The existing tub-shower combo in the home was becoming difficult for her parents to get in and out of, and Krista inquired with Improveit about both walk-in shower and walk-in tub options.
After meeting with an Improveit design consultant in the comfort of their home, Krista and her parents opted to move forward with a walk in shower with seat arrangement that would make safe bathing much easier, and also allow for Krista or another caregiver to provide bathing help if needed.
The new shower is a perfect example of universal design and aging-in-place design. In addition to a low-threshold shower base that’s easy to step in and out of, the new shower features three grab bars in different locations and orientations: one at an angle, one vertical, and one horizontal. These grab bars are ideally situated in relation to the shower’s fold-away, L-shaped shower seat. Anyone using the shower can safely hold onto a grab bar as they lower themselves into a seated position, and again when they need to stand back up. Each grab bar and the shower seat are screwed into blocking behind the shower walls for the ultimate in secure installation.
Making the Most of this Circleville Tub to Shower Conversion
The Bowers’ hand-held showerhead also benefits from a unique installation involving blocking behind the wall. Rather than have both the overhead shower and hand shower mounted on the same wall, Krista selected an adjacent mounting location for the hand shower, making it easy to reach from the shower seat.
While some homeowners worry about sacrificing style in place of safety, that’s never the case with an Improveit shower! Krista chose clean white walls with a new Grayline hexagonal tile pattern for a subtle but playful look, and a white 4-shelf shower caddy to add plenty of storage. Outside the shower, she also chose an to upgrade her sink area with a white marble vanity top and an Eva single-lever faucet in chrome to match the shower fixtures and grab bar.
The finished product in this Circleville accessible shower is a bright, clean bathing space that Krista and her family can all feel safe using.
