Large Kitchen Island Remodel Brings the Family’s Vision to Life
We took the Momsens’ Ashville, OHio kitchen from Better to best
At first glance, the “before” photos of the Momsen’s Ashville, OH kitchen is one that many homeowners wish they had: A large kitchen island, Shaker-style cabinetry in a modern gray tone, updated appliances, and sleek white countertops. But while their kitchen was beautiful, it still wasn’t exactly what they wanted.
As Improveit designer Shelby Henke explained, the Momsens made some quick updates to their kitchen when they purchased the home in 2019. The result was lovely, but was done on a tight budget with the goal of removing the previous’ owners design choices, including heavy stone veneer, dark wood cabinets, and statement countertops in red and black.
But those updates were only a stepping stone to the look they really wanted.
Focal Point: Large Kitchen Island Remodel
With Shelby’s help, the Momsens created a better design for their kitchen, starting with a kitchen island remodel. The previous island featured an elevated bar-height countertop around the perimeter, and a counter-height workstation where the kitchen sink was located. For their new design, the family wanted more storage and a single-level countertop to create a larger area for prepping, serving, and gathering.
Stylewise, the Momsens kept the cool tones of their kitchen by refacing the lower cabinets in a trendy dark blue tone and keeping their white upper cabinets intact. The result is a fresh-feeling contrast that blends well with their existing tile backsplash.
Ashville, OH Cabinet Refacing Done Right
During their 4-day installation, Improveit team members took the Momsen’s kitchen from better to best! The kitchen island remodel began by removing most of the existing quartz countertops so the bar-height section could be fully removed and replaced with four brand new cabinets for maximum storage. The remaining cabinets, doors, and drawer fronts on the sink side of the island were refaced in blue, along with the lower cabinets along the back wall of the kitchen.
With the new cabinets installed for the large kitchen island, accurate measurements were taken to replace the countertop. Installers left the counter-height portion of the old countertop in place so the Momsens could continue using the workspace while their new countertop was being fabricated. Once installed, Improveit replaced the old kitchen sink and faucet with new selections, and the impressive kitchen island remodel was complete!
The Improveit team is so happy to be involved with the Momsen’s kitchen project and helping them get the kitchen they were envisioning from the start!
