When Charles Smiths moved into his home in 2019, the kitchen still showcased style trends of the early ’90s, and not in a nostalgic way. The space featured tiled countertops, outdated white laminate cabinets that were chipped, peeling, and even missing a few doors, plus a scuffed ceramic sink and a built-in wine rack above it that had lost its purpose over time.

While the kitchen may have been a showstopper when the home was new, it was clear the space was overdue for a refresh. When it was time to update the space, Charles found Improveit through an online search, and worked closely with our kitchen refacing team to help him redesign the kitchen into a more functional space with updated style – all without the mess, hassle, and expense of a full gut renovation.

Soft Gray Kitchen Cabinets Work with a stylish neutral color palette

In addition to a new look, Charles wanted to rethink the kitchen’s layout to better suit his needs. This included relocating the refrigerator to a more practical spot and removing a small, cramped peninsula to open up the room and create space for a larger, more functional island. inside the cabinets, pull-out shelving brings the contents of the cabinet forward for easy reaching.

Visually, the transformation is impressive! The original all-white look was replaced with modern light gray cabinetry and durable Rocky Shores quartz countertops with just the right amount of shine and visual interest. The kitchen now has a galley layout that’s open at both ends, rather than the compressed U shape from the original design. The larger island uses the window bay area more effectively, offering seating and prep space, while opening up the kitchen and still allowing for traffic flow.

Thanks to a smart mix of layout improvements and efficient cabinet refacing, Charles now has a kitchen that finally matches his style, and he didn’t have to go through the hassle of a full remodel to get it!
