Walk-In Tub in a Small Bathroom Makes a Big Impact

The Moons prioritized safe bathing in their small bathroom so they can age in place comfortably

When Vicki and Marty Moon decided to remodel their bathroom, they had one clear goal: make their home safer and more comfortable for the long haul.

Married for nearly 20 years, Vicki purchased the Gahanna that home she and Marty share in 1997, and the couple plan to live there as long as they can. With that in mind, aging-in-place remodeling is top-of-mind, and a walk-in-tub was their first priority.

Finding the Right Walk-In Tub Company

The Moons already had a walk-in shower in their small primary bathroom, but they knew a walk-in tub was a better option to address their health and safety needs.

“Besides the safety of being able to bathe sitting down for both of us, Marty has a bad back and he loves hot tubs for the aches and pains,” Vicki says. “With a walk-in tub in our bathroom, he’s able to sit in it with the jets going any time he wants, play his music, and relax – he’s a happy camper!” For her part, Vicki says, “I enjoy it too. We had a walk-in shower to begin with, but that room was so small and the way it was oriented was not good. This gave us the opportunity to do something totally different.”

With their choice made, the Moons did their research visiting home shows and searching online for a company that could install a walk-in tub in their small bathroom. They met Improveit at the 2023 Ohio State Fair and had a great rapport from the start. Not only did their design consultant help the Moonos create a new bathroom with a look they love, the installation crew went above and beyond to make the project come together.

Walk-In Tubs for Small Bathrooms? Yes, It’s Possible!

Walk-in tubs can be rather bulky compared to other tub and shower materials. To make the new layout possible, the design and installation teams relocated the toilet and adjusted some wall openings. “It was quite an undertaking,” Vicki says, “but the installation team did such a good job in spite of working in that small area.”

“I absolutely love this tub,” Marty says. “It’s incredible. Improveit did a wonderful job.” The final design features a white walk-in tub with chrome fixtures, smooth wall surrounds in our lightning pattern, and a new white vanity and specially designed ledge adjacent to the tub.

The Moons’ walk-in tub remodel is a great example of how smart bathroom updates can help homeowners stay safe, independent, and comfortable at home for years to come.
