Refreshing a Well-Used Tub-Shower Combo
17 Years and four kids later, it was time for a Dayton shower update
After moving to more than a dozen new homes in different cities during his military career, Steve Hildenbrandt and his family finally put down roots in the Dayton area in 2004. While the family made a few updates to their home in the years that followed, the upstairs hall bathroom stayed the same, and faced daily by four growing kids. In 2001, Steve made bathroom updates a priority and visited the Miami Valley Home & Garden Show in search of a some bath remodeling inspiration. That’s where he met the Improveit team and liked what he heard.
“About eight years ago, we did a whole kitchen remodel, and that was a laborious process,” he says. “I would not go back to the company we used for that, because we ended up way over budget and it was a really disruptive process. The fact that Improveit said they could update the bathroom in a short period of time made it very appealing.”
timeless design selections blend with the rest of the home
At the show, Steve learned all about Improveit’s high-quality products, fast installation process, and down-to-the penny quotes, all providing plenty of peace-of-mind. He also took a minute to enter our annual Home Makeover Sweepstakes. “I totally forgot about it until I got the call that I won!” he says. “I’m very happy to receive the sweepstakes award for the shower re-fit.”
Improveit’s sweepstakes winners go through the easy same design selection process as all of our homeowners, meeting with an Improveit design consultant from the comfort of their home to choose the best finishes and fixtures for their bathroom. While he had the option to go with a tub-to-shower conversion for his prize-winning project, Steve shares in this video his reasoning for keeping the tub-shower combo in this bathroom.
During the design process, Steve’s preference for warm, neutral tones came out in his selection of Travertine shower walls. While the bathroom’s previous molded shower stopped about 18 inches from the ceiling, Steve opted to extend the new shower walls all the way up to create a truly water-resistant bathing area. The walls blend beautifully with his selection of a clean, white bathtub. To finish the shower, Steve chose matching Travertine soap dishes and corner shelves, and complementary brushed-nickel fixtures from our Brantford collection.
