Giving a Small 80s Kitchen a Modern Update
Even a Small Kitchen Remodel can Make a Big Impact
When Candace Perkins visited the Greater Cincinnati Home Show, she was looking for inspiration to update her kitchen. What she discovered was a simple way to completely transform the look of her space without the cost, mess, or disruption of a full kitchen remodel.
Like many homes built in the 1980s, Candace’s kitchen featured white laminate slab-front cabinets accented with faux wood trim. While functional, the dated design no longer reflected her style. Cabinet refacing offered the perfect solution, allowing her to modernize the kitchen while keeping the existing layout and footprint intact.
Kitchen Renovation Ideas for Small Spaces
For her new look, Candace selected recessed panel doors and drawer fronts in Earl Grey, a versatile medium-gray finish that pairs beautifully with a variety of design styles. Brushed pewter hardware adds a timeless finishing touch, while a new stainless steel 60/40 sink and matching Arbor pull-down faucet bring added functionality to the space.
To complete the transformation, Candace chose Calacatta Idillio quartz countertops and a coordinating backsplash. The bright, elegant surfaces help reflect light throughout the kitchen, creating a fresh and inviting atmosphere.
One of the most practical upgrades in the project is a tilt-out sink tray tucked neatly beneath the sink. This clever accessory keeps sponges and dish cloths conveniently within reach while helping maintain a clutter-free countertop.
The result is a refreshed, modern kitchen that feels brighter, more organized, and perfectly suited to Candace’s home.
