When Melvin and Anna Gamble moved back to Ohio to be closer to family, they purchased a home with a kitchen that looked like it hadn’t changed much since 1978. The layout still worked well, but the cabinets – painted green and white by a previous homeowner – definitely didn’t fit their style.
“It was probably the original cabinets from 1978, just looking at the hinges and handles,” Melvin says. “We had a handyman touch up some of the paint that was already on them, but that design was not our choice – it came with the house.”
While the Gambles had considered refinishing painted cabinets over the years, peeling paint and outdated hardware made it clear they needed a more complete kitchen refresh. Fortunately, the existing cabinet boxes were still in great shape, making their home a perfect candidate for cabinet refacing.
Before choosing Improveit, Anna spent time researching remodeling companies online and says the Improveit website helped give her confidence in the process. That experience started with Design Consultant Vinnie Pestano.
“I had an idea of what I wanted, but Improveit helped us pick the colors,” Anna says. “Vinnie came with a bunch of displays and choices and helped us through the process.”
The project took about 10 days from start to finish, including cabinet refacing, new flooring, and countertop replacement. The Gambles selected our Granville door style in a rich black cherry wood tone, paired with Giallo ornamental granite countertops and bright travertine white LVT flooring. Functional upgrades like roll-out shelving and a lazy Susan added even more convenience to the space.
The Gambles were especially impressed with installer James, whose craftsmanship and communication helped deliver the five-star experience they were hoping for.
“I’m very picky, and James explained everything and made sure we were comfortable with every decision,” Anna says. “It’s really important that when people come out they inspire confidence in the customer.”
Now, the Gambles have a warm, traditional kitchen that finally feels like home — and when Anna shared photos of the finished remodel with her daughters, their response was simple: “It’s about time!”
