What Does the Average Kitchen Remodel Cost?

Your kitchen remodeling costs will depend on your wants and needs

Kitchen remodeling can take on a variety of approaches from simple DIY updates to a major layout overhaul. Depending on the type of remodeling you choose, the average kitchen remodel cost can range from less than $25,000 to more than $150,000. Here’s a closer look at how those costs break down by project type.

Average Midrange/Small Kitchen Remodel Cost

If you’re looking for small kitchen remodel cost analysis, the 2024 Cost vs. Value Report says a midrange/minor kitchen remodel has a national average cost of $27,492. The scope of work for this project category includes cabinet refacing, laminate countertop replacement, and new sink, faucet, range, refrigerator, and flooring. This average cost is up 2.6% from 2023, and up 22.1% from five years ago. The average cost recouped is impressive at 96.1%, compared to 85.7% last year.

Average Major Midrange Kitchen Remodel Cost

A major midrange kitchen remodel costs $79,982 on average nationally, according to the Cost vs. Value Report. This project has a similar scope of work to the small kitchen remodel project, but includes all new cabinetry, all new appliances, and additional features like lighting. Despite the larger scope of work and substantial price increase, a major midrange kitchen remodel only has a 49.5% average cost recouped.

Custom Kitchen Remodel

Major Upscale Kitchen Remodel

If you’re looking for a full-scale kitchen remodel with completely customized deign and layout changes, the average national cost is $158,530. This project includes all-white cabinets with built-in sliding shelves, stone countertops, designer fixtures, and high-end appliances, and upgrade flooring. As project customization increases, return on investment decreases. These projects only have a 38% cost recouped on average.

More details from the 2024 Cost vs. Value Report are shared in the table below.

What is the cost of a kitchen remodel in 2024

Midrange Kitchen Remodeling Costs

How to read this table:

The annual Cost vs. Value Report shares two important numbers: The average cost of a given project and the value of that project at resale (the “cost recouped” number).

Project Cost: This number indicates the average cost of a bathroom remodel in your metro area.

Cost Recouped: This is average return on investment (ROI) for bathroom remodeling when you sell a home in that metro area. Multiply your project cost by this percentage to find your project’s resale value dollar amount.

Example: Using the national average numbers, a $27,492 bathroom remodel has a cost recouped value of 96.1% or $26,419. With that knowledge, a homeowner could add $26,419 to the sale price of their home when it’s time to move.

REMEMBER:

These numbers are averages only. Actual project costs and ROI differ by market and depend on several factors. Cost vs. Value numbers do not account for:

  • Different levels of finish options and accessories available to personalize your kitchen remodel.
  • Promotions, discounts or financing available at the time of purchase.
  • The value of a lifetime warranty that covers the cost of repair or replacement for as long as your home is standing.
  • The added value of a transferable warranty that can make your home more desirable when selling.
  • The importance of updating your home for your family’s needs rather than for a future homeowner.

Kitchen Remodeling Costs for Improveit Customers

Kitchen remodeling costs vary by market, by home, and by each homeowner’s personal preferences.

When determining a quote for a particular project, Improveit design consultants take several details into account, including:

  • The size of the kitchen
  • The condition of the existing cabinets and whether any cabinets must be fully replaced instead of refaced.
  • New cabinets added to your existing layout, including creating a kitchen island.
  • Your design preferences and finish options
  • Additional accessory and finish selections

To make sure you have a worry-free remodeling experience our trained Improveit design consultants will go through all of these details – and more! – during your in-home appointment.

How Can I Lower the Cost of Renovating a kitchen?

Remodeing a kitchen can be expensive, but there are plenty of ways to maximize the value of your investment.

  1. Don’t Hesitate. The average cost of a kitchen remodel will continue to rise, so getting your project started sooner rather than later is the easiest way to save money. Improveit offers down-to-the-penny quotes that are good for a full year. Schedule an appointment today to insulate your investment against price increases into 2024!
  2. Invest in Quality. Choosing DIY or budget-priced kitchen products and services may seem like a smart cost-saving measure, but can cost more in the long run. Budget-level kitchen remodeling, like DIY painted cabinets or countertops don’t solve underlying problems like outdated style, limited functionality, or damage to cabinet boxes. You’ll end up replacing those low-cost “solutions” at least once more over the life of your kitchen.
  3. Choose the Best Warranty. Taking advantage of Improveit’s unbeatable warranty will also save you from having to remodel your kitchen ever again (unless you want to, of course!). Our lifetime, transferrable warranty covers both labor and materials – and can be transferred to new owners, adding value to the sale of your home.
  4. Take Advantage of Financing. The right financing can help bath remodeling projects fit comfortably into your everyday budget. An Improveit design consultant can discuss numerous available options to fit your needs.
  5. Consider Your Time & Energy. Remember, not all savings are financial. Improveit’s high-quality kitchen remodeling materials are low maintenance for a kitchen that’s easy to keep clean.
