Replacing Old Aluminum Windows for Better Performance
An Improveit Team Member Knows Just Who to Turn to for Window Replacement as a New Homeowner
As one of Improveit’s top design consultants, Shelby Henke spends her days helping homeowners bring fresh style, comfort, and function to their bathrooms and kitchens. But after becoming a first-time homeowner in 2024, she found herself on the other side of the remodeling table and with a window problem she couldn’t ignore.
“It was definitely different being on the customer side,” Shelby shared. “Any time you do a big project, it can feel scary. But after three years at Improveit, I know the quality, and I know what goes on behind the scenes. That made it a lot easier.” With old aluminum windows that were drafty, broken, and outdated, Shelby immediately turned to her Improveit colleagues for help updating her home’s look and feel.
A Not-So-Simple Window Swap
When Shelby bought her home, it still had the the original aluminum windows from when it was built in the 1980s. Though they were in bad shape and definitely needed to be replaced, the logistics of that project were challenging. The way the windows were framed into the structure of the stucco-clad home made them extremely difficult to remove; our installers told us they went through multiple metal-cutting blades just getting them out! But, as always, the team pushed through with precision and care.
Once demo was complete, every window in the house was replaced along with the home’s back patio door, and the team cleaned up the home inside and out. The difference was immediate.
Replacing old aluminum windows meant More Comfort and better Sleep
Before the project, Shelby’s windows were broken, drafty, and wildly inefficient – so much so that her family couldn’t sleep upstairs for the first couple of months in the home. Their conditioned air was escaping faster than the home’s HVAC system could keep up. But with Improveit Performax54 windows throughout, the change was dramatic.
“I don’t know how the previous homeowners lived with the windows the way they were,” Shelby admitted. “This past summer now heading into fall and winter, the home has been so much more comfortable than last year. And our energy bills have dropped a ton!”
A Warranty That Matters
As a mom of an active 8-year-old and a big dog owner, Shelby knows window accidents are a matter of when, not if. That’s why Improveit’s lifetime warranty was such an important part of her decision.
“If anything happens – if a soccer ball goes through the glass or our dog, Mecca, plays too rough – I know Improveit will take care of it. Not because I work here, but because that’s the warranty. Even broken glass! And I know they stand behind their word.”
While she’s used to creating the more design-focused projects like kitchens and baths for Improveit, Shelby appreciated having our own Lonny Davis guide her through the window process and help get her home in better shape.
Now, with brand-new windows and a worry-free warranty behind them, Shelby and her family are set with comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind for years to come.
