Learn How Much Bathroom Remodeling Costs in Your Area
The Average Cost of a Bathroom Remodel
Bathroom remodeling can range from simple updates to extensive layout changes, and the average cost of a bathroom remodel will vary depending on the approach you want to take. Here, we take a look at the average cost for three different types of bathroom remodeling: Upscale, accessible, and midrange options.
The national average cost of a bathroom remodel in the midrange category is $25,251 according to the 2024 Cost vs. Value Report, an annual report by industry analysts. This figure is based on a midrange project that includes updating a 5×7-foot bathroom with a new bathtub, toilet, vanity, faucet fixtures, and recessed medicine cabinet, as well as a ceramic tile shower surround, and finished walls and floors. This average cost, which includes labor, is up 2.6% from 2023, and up 23.6% from 2019. The average cost recouped is 73.7%, up substantially from 66.7% in 2023.
Average Cost of a Midrange Bathroom Remodel: $25, 251
At $78,840 on average, upscale bathroom remodels cost more than three times the price of a midrange project due to the scope of work. This includes expanding a standard 35-square-foot bathroom to 100 square feet, all new fixtures, a separate bathtub and shower, new cabinetry, dual sinks with stone countertops, and additional upgraded finishes and accessories. The average cost recouped on an upscale bathroom remodel is just 45.1%.
Average Cost of Upscale Remodel: $78,840
Universal design bathrooms with more focus on accessibility cost $40,750 on average, but the higher price tag comes with important aging-in-place and accessibility considerations. These designs include wider doorways and low-threshold showers for wheelchair access, multiple grab bars, and other universal design amenities that help people of all ages and abilities. On average, these projects have a cost recouped of 49.4%
Average Cost of Accessible Remodel: $40,750

How to Read This Table
The annual Cost vs. Value Report shares two important numbers: The average cost of a given project and the value of that project at resale (the “cost recouped” number).
Project Cost: This number indicates the average cost of a bathroom remodel in your metro area.
Cost Recouped: This is average return on investment (ROI) for bathroom remodeling when you sell a home in that metro area. Multiply your project cost by this percentage to find your project’s resale value dollar amount.
Example: Using the national average numbers, a $25,251 bathroom remodel has a cost recouped value of 73.7% or $18,458. With that knowledge, a homeowner could add $18,458 to the sale price of their home when it’s time to move.
REMEMBER:
These numbers are averages only. Actual project costs and ROI differ by market and depend on several factors. Cost vs. Value numbers do not account for:
- Different levels of finish options and accessories available to personalize your bathroom remodel. This includes upgrading to accessible bathroom options.
- Promotions, discounts or financing available at the time of purchase.
- Repairs or improvements made behind the walls when your old materials are removed.
- The value of a lifetime warranty that covers the cost of repair or replacement for as long as your home is standing.
- The added value of a transferable warranty that can make your home more desirable when selling.
- The importance of updating your home for your family’s needs rather than for a future homeowner.
Bathroom Remodeling Costs for Improveit Customers
Bathroom remodeling costs vary by market, by home, and by each homeowner’s personal preferences. When determining a quote for a particular project, Improveit design consultants take several details into account, including:
- The size of the bathroom
- The type of wet space being installed, such as walk-in shower, tub-shower combo, or separate bathtub and shower
- The condition of the existing framing and plumbing
- Your design preferences and finish options
- Additional accessory and finish selections
To make sure you have a worry-free remodeling experience our trained Improveit design consultants will go through all of these details – and more! – during your in-home appointment.
How Can I Lower the Cost of Renovating a Bathroom?
Remodeing a bathroom can be expensive, but there are plenty of ways to maximize the value of your investment.
- Don’t Hesitate. The average cost of renovating a bathroom will continue to rise, so getting your project started sooner rather than later is the easiest way to save money. Improveit offers down-to-the-penny quotes that are good for a full year. Schedule an appointment today to insulate your investment against price increases into 2024!
- Invest in Quality. Choosing value-priced bathroom products and services may seem like a smart cost-saving measure, but can cost more in the long run. Budget-level bathroom remodeling, like tub and shower liners, rarely solve underlying problems like leaky plumbing and mold. You’ll end up replacing those low-cost “solutions” at least once more, and potentially pay for costly repairs as well.
- Choose the Best Warranty. Taking advantage of Improveit’s unbeatable warranty will also save you from having to remodel your bathroom ever again (unless you want to, of course!). Our lifetime, transferrable warranty covers both labor and materials – and can be transferred to new owners, adding value to the sale of your home.
- Take Advantage of Financing. The right financing can help bath remodeling projects fit comfortably into your everyday budget. An Improveit design consultant can discuss numerous available options to fit your needs.
- Consider Your Time & Energy. Remember, not all savings are financial. Improveit’s high-quality acrylic bath and shower systems are so low maintenance, you’ll never have to scrub your shower again.
