2021 Colors of the Year
Dec 23, 2020The Best Ways to Bring the 2021 Colors of the Year into Your Home
Looking for ways to make simple updates to your home this year? Adding the right colors in the right places will keep your home inviting and on-trend.
Choosing the Right Color for Your Home
The right color palette can do so much for a room and a home. Whether you want to create a relaxing bathroom retreat, an energizing office space, or a welcoming front porch, color sets the mood. The best part is, in many cases, color is easy to change! A coat of paint and a few décor pieces are often all you need to update your space with the right hue.
This year, paint manufacturers and design experts have turned to colors that both ground and inspire for their 2021 colors of the year. Here are a few ideas on how to incorporate them throughout your home for stylish, on-trend updates in the New Year.
benjamin moore: Aegean teal
Paint manufacturer Benjamin Moore calls its 2021 Color of the Year “intriguing, balanced, and deeply soothing.” We think that makes Aegean Teal perfect for a relaxing spa bathroom or a cozy reading nook. The color is complemented well by other tones from the brand’s 2021 palette. Muslin, Gray Cashmere, and Chestertown Buff all set off the soothing blue-green with warm accents easily found in natural woods and linens.
Sherwin-Williams: Urbane Bronze
Taking a cue from nature that inspires grounding and tranquility, Sherwin-Williams chose Urbane Bronze as its 2021 Color of the Year. The company says the warm brown tone “has a unique ability to ground a room,” and “draws from nature for a feeling of relaxation and serenity.” As an alternative to popular cool gray tones, Urbane Bronze pairs well with warmer accents like the brand’s Messenger Bag (a grayish-green), and warmer Modern Gray. Sherwin-Williams recommends juxtaposing Urbane Bronze with Carrara marble, travertine, or another pale natural stone, and adding shine with silver- or brass-toned finishes. These suggestions blend perfectly the most popular bathroom color trends we spotted in 2020.
Urbane Bronze also makes an excellent color for exteriors. Try it as a new front door color, or in porch accents. For a more permanent selection, the deep, warm brown is a unique selection for window color. Improveit’s partnership with Sherwin-Williams allows our customers to choose any Sherwin-Williams color for their windows, creating a true custom design that will set your home apart from your neighbors.
Pantone: Ultimate Gray & Illuminating
The color- and design-industry experts at Pantone took the unusual step of choosing two colors of the year for 2021. Ultimate Gray and Illuminating were selected to “highlight how different elements come together to support one another.” As a dependable neutral, Ultimate Gray works well as a grounding wall color, leaving room for highlighter-yellow Illuminating to be added as an accent through furniture and décor pieces, or flowers.
