Four Scary Bathrooms You Have to See to Believe
Oct 01, 2020See how These Four Scary Bathrooms Turned Out!
With more than 53,000 projects completed, we’ve been inside a lot of bathrooms. While they all need a little TLC, some of them have made us say “yikes!” Take a look at a few recent projects that went from “boo!” to “beautiful!”
Bathroom #1 – Got the Blues?

This Marysville, Ohio bathroom remodel had a serious case of the blues – until ImproveIt arrived! Our team replaced the toilet and did a full tub-to-shower conversion with a sleek white shower base, gorgeous Calcutta Marble surround, and simple wainscoting on the other walls. Inside the new walk-in shower, the homeowner chose a matching chrome showerhead, valve, and grab bars from our Brantford accessories collection. The finishing touch was a barn-door style double-slider with clear glass. The new bathroom is still jaw-dropping, but for all the right reasons!
Bathroom #2 – Scary Unsafe Tub

Sometimes the scariest bathrooms we see are the ones that put homeowners’ safety in jeopardy. This Columbus bathroom remodel came to us from an older couple that was ready to create a beautiful, safe walk-in shower to allow them to age in place longer. Our crews first removed the existing dingy bathtub, surround, and damaged soap ledge.

With a tub-to-shower conversion, the team installed a white shower base, Silver White Marble walls with a Roman block pattern, and a matching shower safety bench. For even more safe bathing elements, the homeowner selected two grab bars and a hand-held shower in brushed nickel from our Brantford collection. These shower safety features will allow the homeowners and other users to easily move in and out of the shower, and bathe while seated.
Additionally, the shower walls clean easily with soap and water, and never require scrubbing, making them ideal for this universal design shower space. To finish the space, traditional wainscoting wraps the bathroom wall leading to the new corner-shaped vanity – a great small-bathroom remodeling idea. The vanity features a simple marble sink top, single-lever faucet, and lovely three-globe light fixture.
Bathroom #3 – When Liners Go Terribly Wrong

Scared to see what’s going on behind your bath or shower liner? You should be. As the owners of this Cincinnati bathroom remodel found out the hard way, liners are just a problem waiting to happen. After about five years (the average lifespan of a tub or shower liner), this one finally needed to come out and the mess it left behind was frightful. Thankfully, ImproveIt was able remove and replace the failed liner and damaged bathtub with a brand-new white tub, and our white Reveal Othello subway-style walls. Even with the popular look of white tile with black grout, the system is completely grout-free! (That means even the two teenage boys who share this bathroom will be able to keep it clean with no scrubbing ever.) The bath and shower space was finished with brushed nickel plumbing fixtures from our Wynford collection, simple corner soap dishes, and a curved shower curtain rod to give a little extra elbow room in the shower space.
Bathroom #4 – Mustard Mayhem
Harvest gold, and chocolate brown were signature colors of 1970s design. And while we’re sure this bold Dayton bathroom was a show-stopper back in its day, the homeowners and our designers knew that this home had held onto its vintage “style” for far too long. Yikes! In addition to updating the color palette, the bathroom got a major layout upgrade from a tiny cave-like shower stall to a full-size walk-in shower.

One of the bathroom’s two doorways was sealed off to make space for a full-size shower. In the completed design, a white shower base anchors the Roman Stone-patterned walls with our Fairfield tile pattern. A four-shelf corner caddy in matching Roman Stone gives plenty of room for shower storage, while two grab bars add a safety element. The brushed nickel grab bars and showerhead are from our Gibson collection, and everything is hidden behind a stylish sliding shower door with privacy glass.
The homeowners also updated the bathroom with a new vanity, sink, single-handle faucet, and light fixture (not pictured.) The new design brings the bathroom well into the 21st century, and with a lifetime warranty, is guaranteed to keep looking great for decades more.
