Here's What to Expect For Your Bathroom REmodel Timeline - and how to FInish Faster Without Sacrificing Quality

Before you get started on a bathroom remodel, you have to know three things: How much it’s going to cost, what kind of design style you’re looking for, and how long does it take to remodel a bathroom anyway? Working with a trained bathroom designer can help you answer the first two questions, which go hand-in-hand. To understand the bathroom remodel timeline and remodeling process, read through the details and infographic below.

How Long Does bathroom Remodeling Take?

Your bathroom remodel timeline depends on a lot of factors. Your project can take anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on how extensive the project is and the remodeling method you choose. Most traditional bathroom remodels take 8-12 weeks, while streamlined processes cut the timeline down two 10-14 days.

Here are some rules of thumb:

Traditional Remodeling:
8 to 12 weeks

When you factor in the design process, material selection, and the construction phase itself, a 12-week timeline is standard for bathroom remodeling, but could get even longer with construction delays.

Streamlined Remodeling:
1 to 2 weeks

Choosing a remodeling contractor that prioritizes quality while staying conscious of your time can shave weeks or months off your bathroom remodel. This includes a fast and easy design process, followed by installation that can takes a week or less!

Why Does Traditional Bathroom Remodeling Take So Long?

If you’ve started researching bathroom renovations, you’ve probably seen stories of projects that dragged on for weeks or even months. That’s because the traditional remodeling process is time-consuming and involves a lot of legwork from you as the homeowner. Here’s a rough idea of what to expect:

  • Phase 1: Design & Planning with Your Contractor: 1-2 weeks
    • Includes design consultations, revisions, and approvals. With at least two meetings between you and your design team.
  • Phase 2: Shopping & Material Selection: 1-2 weeks
    • Plan to spend time shopping in-store and online for the finishes and fixtures you want to include in your project. Some of this may be done in your contractor’s showroom if they have one, but not all contractors carry all materials.
    • Plan to shop around (with or without your contractor) for flooring, lighting, cabinet hardware, and other items.
  • Phase 3: Downtime while materials are ordered and delivered: 1-2 weeks
    • After you choose your materials, you’ll have to wait for them to be ordered and arrive. This is common no matter what type of remodeling you’re doing.
  • Phase 4: Construction: 3-4 weeks
    • Once all your materials are in, your project will officially begin. The timing will differ depending on the complexity of your project. Moving walls, plumbing, and electrical will take much longer than simply updating the shower area.
    • Prepare for your bathroom to be unusable for much of the construction timeline.
  • Phase 5: Punchlist and Inspections: 1 week
    • Once the project is completed, your construction team may return for final touchups, permit inspections, and to resolve any questions you have about the project.

If you’re keeping count, that’s a total of more than 7 weeks for a bathroom remodel at minimum – and that’s assuming everything goes according to plan. More often than not, a bathroom remodel timeline of 8-12 weeks is more in keeping with the traditional approach of working with a contractor.

Can You Really Remodel My Bathroom in 3 Days?

Yes! The Improveit process is designed to prioritize convenience by respecting your busy schedule without sacrificing quality. Here’s what you can expect on each of the three days of installation:

  • Day 1: Demolition
    • Our team will remove your old tub and shower down to the studs, as well as any other materials that will be replaced as part of your project.
  • Day 2: Waterproofing & Installation Part 1
    • Any water damage found behind your old tub and shower is repaired during this phase. All projects receive brand new waterproof backerboard for the entire wet space.
    • Day 2 is also when your new bathtub or shower base is set in place. Your crew may also start installing the shower walls on this day!
    • Your installer will work closely with you on this day, explaining every step of the process, and asking your input on things like grab bar height and shower shelf placement.
  • Day 3: Installation Part 2
    • Any shower materials left to install will happen on day 3.
    • When the project is complete, your installer will go over everything with you and make sure you’re thrilled!
  • Days 4-5: Accessories (Optional)
    • If your project includes flooring, lighting, or a vanity or toilet, your installation may extend into a fourth or fifth day. When our team calls to schedule the installation, we’ll let you know exactly how long the process will take.

Our expert installers get to work and deliver a high-quality bathroom transformation in just a few days – not weeks. And because we install premium, durable materials like easy-clean acrylic, your new bathroom is as long-lasting as it is beautiful.
