Bathtub Cleaners & Shower Sprays for Safe Spring Cleaning
Toss your harsh shower tile cleaner! These installer-recommended shower and bathtub cleaners will give you the best spring cleaning results.
Keep Your Bathroom Beautiful Without Harsh Shower Tile Cleaner
One of the biggest reasons homeowners choose Improveit for bathroom remodeling projects is because they get all the beauty and aesthetics of tile with none of the maintenance! That’s because Improveit’s bathtubs and shower surrounds are 100% waterproof acrylic with absolutely no grout to trap moisture and harbor mold and mildew.
We love the looks on our customers’ faces when they hear that their new tubs and showers will be grout-free and scrub-free! Of course, that doesn’t mean your new bathroom will never need to be cleaned. The following list outlines the best products and solutions to keep your acrylic bath and shower systems looking great forever – plus what to avoid.
Recommended Shower & Bathtub Cleaners
For everyday cleaning, you can easily wipe down your acrylic bathtub and shower surround with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. A few other options are listed here as well. If you choose to use a product that’s not listed, test the product on a small area in the corner of your bathtub skirt before applying it to the entire bathtub or shower wall.
- Dawn dish soap and warm water
- Formula 409
- 50/50 solution of vinegar and water, if needed to soften mineral deposits
- 1/2 C Clorox bleach per 1 gallon of water as a disinfectant. Rinse well.
The Worst Shower Sprays & Bathtub Cleaners for Acrylic
Acrylic tubs and showers won’t harbor mold and mildew when cared for properly. In addition to choosing the right shower sprays, proper care also means avoiding damaging materials, such as abrasive products. Avoid using abrasive cleaners on smooth acrylic surfaces, as using them can dull the surface over a period of time.
For Improveit’s high-quality acrylic, do not use* the following shower cleaning supplies and brand-name products:
- Original Shower Clean
- Clean Shower for Plastic Showers & Glass
- Soft Scrub
- Dow disinfectant cleaner
- Dow Scrubbing Bubbles
- Scrub Free
- Lysol disinfectant cleaner
- nail polish remover
- aerosol cleaners
- abrasive scouring pads
In extreme cases where the recommended cleaners do not work, we suggest using sponge pads rated for Teflon or non-stick surfaces, such as those from Chore Boy or 3M.
How to Clean Bathroom Fixtures
At Improveit, we partner with Moen for all of the showerheads, faucets, and many of the grab bars we install. Keeping them clean is easy too! Generally, Moen recommends using a damp cloth and mild dishwashing liquid on its fixtures, followed by thoroughly rinsing the fixture and drying it with a soft cloth. Find more details about caring for your specific finish on the Moen Finish Care & Cleaning Instructions brochure.

“Our new bathroom was worth every penny. The material is VERY easy to clean. Everything looks so great and high quality. We’ve had nothing but compliments and love showing it off. The install team was also willing to go the extra mile to make sure that we were happy and it was done right. They even fixed a loose toilet seat!” – Allison L., Cincinnati, OH
*For Improveit bath remodeling customers, using the chemicals on this list will cause a dull surface and/or an easily recognizable chemical crack that will void the product warranty.
