Bringing State Fair Theme Room Ideas to your home
A great state fair theme room blends a touch of rustic design with playful décor, and a cheerful color palette. Think about incorporate primary colors – red, yellow, and blue – to evoke fair staples like show barns, lemonade, and blue ribbons. If you want a more whimsical space, consider adding pops of color like you’d see on carnival rides or cotton candy. Keep spaces more neutral with natural tones to showcase the agricultural roots of your favorite state or county fair. Here’s how our designers put these ideas into practice:
The Midway:
Funnel cakes, corn dogs, and picnic tables inspired this lighthearted state fair theme kitchen design. Classic Worthington cabinets give a blue-ribbon backdrop with our Blueberry finish on the lower cabinets and Egg Shell on the uppers, along with a light blue wall color and light quartz countertop. The brushed nickel fixtures and cabinet hardware are carried through in vintage-style light fixtures, while fun accessories like a popcorn machine and confetti pitcher lighten the mood.
Cotton Candy:
Fluffly clouds and pretty pastels bring cotton candy confections to life in this cozy bathroom design. Galena shower walls feature wisps of gray, softened by brushed nickel fixtures and petal pink accents on the walls and decor. A classic white vanity keeps the space light and bright, along with soft white linens.
Butter Cow:
We pay homage to this state fair staple with a creamy kitchen design that takes you right to the dairy barn. Covington style cabinets in Vanilla are topped with Carrara Ambra quartz countertops to anchor the design, which features a creamy butter yellow wall color. Natural toned wood floors and quartz sink continue the look, and get a pop of shine from brushed gold cabinet hardware and faucetry. Enjoy this look with your favorite ice cream in a classic sundae dish.
Blue Ribbon:
For a prize-winning take on your state fair theme room, go with tried-and-true blue! This bathroom design can handle a dark shower curtain and paint color thanks to the Tuscany marble shower walls, off-white vanity, and light quartz vanity top, all of which feature earthy warm accents and undertones. Oil-rubbed bronze fixtures evoke the dark soil of a racetrack or show ring. Continue the metallic accents in framed artwork of your “fair”-weather friends.
Lemon Shake Up:
There’s nothing like fresh lemonade to cool off at the fair. Now you can bring that refreshing zing to your bathroom too! This bold design gives timeless bath design classics a squeeze of lemon zing with bright yellow walls and leafy accessories. Candy-colored accessories sweeten the space, and the whole look is chilled with angular chrome fixtures. Drink up!
How to Choose a State Fair Theme for Your Home
State and county fair decorating ideas provided a great opportunity for classrooms, birthday parties, Halloween, and other festive events, but you don’t have to go over the top to make a state fair theme part of your regular home décor.
“The Improveit team has a great time exhibiting at state fairs in our region every summer, so we know how overwhelming they can be,” says Monica Briggs, Improveit’s graphic designer. “Instead of trying to make your home reflect everything there is to find at the fair, I’d recommend simplifying your approach and choosing just one thing you love about the fair and going from there.”
For these five designs, Monica says she started each one with a single fair element (lemonade, cotton candy, the midway, etc.) and built the room around that. She was careful to not let too much color overwhelm the designs. Large swaths of light or white cabinetry, shower walls, and other elements give the eye a place to rest.
These designs include kitchen and bathroom fixtures from Improveit’s extensive design options, as well as decor inspiration from Target, The Sill, Smeg, and Home by Cedar Grove.
