Labor Day: A Weekend of Last Chances
Aug 29, 2013Did summer pass you by leaving you no time to take that trip or throw that party? No worries. Labor Day weekend is here to give you that little bit of extra time you needed to finish checking off your summer bucket list.
On Labor Day, most of us are rewarded with an extra day to relax and reflect on the memories of summa’ summa’ summa’ time and to treat this sort of as a weekend of last chances. A last chance to take a trip somewhere, to enjoy the outdoors, to break in that new patio set you still haven’t used. A last chance to wrap up your summer bucket list. This weather ain’t gonna last forever, so it’s time to take advantage of what’s left of the sunshine! What we have to remember is that Labor Day is intended for us to enjoy the fruits of our labor, so below are a few ideas to help you unwind in order to start off September the right way.
GET OUT OF TOWN
Chances are you’ve been saying all summer that you want to spend more time outdoors, but life gets in the way and you didn’t get around to being as adventurous as you wanted to be. Well, here’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is– and you don’t have to go too far. Hocking Hills State Park is about an hour away from Downtown Columbus, but it feels like you’ve entered a foreign land of solace. The great thing about it is that there is something for everyone: hiking, fishing, swimming, canoeing or even ziplining. Get some more info here!
HAVE A BACKYARD BARBECUE
Inviting friends and family over for one last summer hoo-rah should be stress-free. No need to spend hours prepping food and making invitations– this should be a laid back affair! Shoot your friends an email and get in on our secret ingredient to make this the easiest backyard barbecue you’ve ever thrown. The must-have item on your shopping list? Skewers. Too fancy of a word? Ok, stick. There’s a reason why everything at the fair is on a stick. It’s a no-mess way to enjoy great food, and you can literally put anything on it. This way you won’t have to spend nearly as much time cleaning up as you would have if dishes were involved. Think those french toast kebabs look delish? Get the recipe here!
BE A PART OF A CROWD
Entertaining can be exhausting so we get that after a summer of parties, you may be tuckered out from being the hostess with the mostest. Instead, get a bunch of friends and head to one of the many festivals going on in and around town. Let someone else do the cooking and the cleaning for once. A notable festival going on this weekend? The Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival (starting Saturday, Aug. 31) is one of the oldest running festivals in the area. It’s a local tradition that brings in more than 30,000 people. Not persuaded yet? There will be bacon-wrapped mac n’ cheese balls. Plus, we’ll be there! Stop by our booth and check out our awesome products or talk with our expert employees.

GO TAILGATING
The only good thing about the last weekend of summer means it’s the first weekend of football! The Buckeyes kick off at noon this Saturday, which means fans will be filling the parking lots as the sun comes up. Even if you’re not a fan of the sport, everyone loves to tailgate. A nice middle ground between hosting your party and going to a festival,it is a perfect way to end any summer — with friends, family and your fellow community members..
