Dayton Couple Wins All New Windows from ImproveIt!
Sep 29, 2020An impromptu visit to the 2019 Fairborn Halloween Festival turned into a houseful of free windows for Justin & Kadi Meyers.
With a year like 2020, Dayton-area newlyweds Justin and Kadi Meyers were ready for some good news.
In February, the couple had to tackle a wet basement and hired a waterproofing contractor but had a disappointing high-pressure sales experience. When that work began, contractors found a good deal of mold behind the walls, which led to a lengthier and more extensive remodel than they had expected or budgeted for. While that project dragged on, the Covid-19 quarantine period kept the couple from celebrating their first wedding anniversary and Justin’s 30th birthday.
All the while, Justin and Kadi knew in the back of their
minds that the real projects they needed to focus on were buying new windows and gutters.
“New windows were a priority from day one because of some problems especially upstairs,” Kadi says. “We had a crack in one window, and a broken seal on another, and one where water was leaking in at the top of the window every time it rained.” She adds that the home’s previous owners were smokers, and no amount of scrubbing was lifting the yellow staining on the existing vinyl windows. On top of that, some of the home’s gutters were broken during a satellite dish installation.
“We wanted to do both the window replacement and gutter projects from the start, but other projects kept coming up and needing more attention,” she says. The Meyerses just couldn’t catch a break.
Festival Chat Pays Off
Thankfully, an impromptu visit to the Fairborn Halloween Festival in September 2019 paid off. With their toddler daughter in tow, the couple came across ImproveIt’s booth and learned about the benefits of energy-efficient replacement windows and options for new gutters.
“I really enjoyed meeting the ImproveIt team that day,” Justin says. “We hadn’t met with any other companies about replacement windows. The ImproveIt rep showed us the science behind how the windows perform so well, and broke down the benefits beyond just having working windows in our house, like lowering our heating and air conditioning bills.”
“It was a completely different experience from any other contractors we’ve hired,” Kadi agrees. “Before, it felt like any contractors that knew we were new homeowners tried to take advantage of our inexperience. But the ImproveIt rep was really personable. We didn’t feel pressured at all.“
During their Fairborn visit, the Meyerses also filled out an ImproveIt Sweepstakes form for a chance to win a houseful of new windows or a new bath or shower system.
Little did they know how lucky that entry would turn out to be!
Ending 2020 on a High Note
About a week after meeting in Fairborn last fall, ImproveIt visited Justin & Kadi at home to discuss energy-efficient replacement windows and gutter options more in-depth. After the meeting, the couple held onto their down-to-the-penny quote good for a full year, and planned to move forward with buying replacement windows down the road.
Months later, as their wet basement issues and other projects demanded more attention, windows were put on the back burner. But their sweepstakes entry was pulled at random, and not a moment too soon.
“I remember answering the phone and being told we had won the sweepstakes,” Justin says. “With everything else going wrong, I couldn’t believe it. I remember saying, ‘if this is real, then we definitely accept!‘”
Today, with a year of problem after problem in their rearview mirror, Justin and Kadi are set to have their new windows installed.
