Spring Window Maintenance
Apr 17, 2020Even though we’ve had a mild winter this year, we can’t wait for Spring to finally arrive. With warmer days right around the corner, our thoughts turn to spending more time outside, turning off the heat and opening up our windows to the sweet smell of Spring. Just the thought of it can be an instant mood brightener. Here are two quick steps to get your windows ready for that first warm day.
#1 – Clean the screens
Months of wind, snow, salt and dirt can leave your screens dirty and clogged. Simply remove the screens and bring them into your shower. If you have trouble taking the screens out, try using a paint can opener. Rinsing them with warm or even hot water helps dislodge dirt and dust better than your garden hose. Once they are dry and repositioned in the window, you are good to go.
#2 – Clean the glass
While you have the screens out is the best time to go ahead and clean your windows. If you have a tilt-and-clean window, it shouldn’t take you very long to get your windows looking like new. Always use a different rag on the inside and outside of the window along with a separate rag for the window sills and frame. This will keep the outdoor air pollutants and filth outside. If your glass has stuck-on sap or paint, using a razor blade will make clean up an easy task. Just make sure your glass is wet and that your blade is brand new to prevent scratching.
