10 fun uses for your favorite fall foods

Posted on:

Tis the season for apples and pumpkins galore!  The beauty of fall is the unlimited amount of apple and pumpkin pickin’ we can do all autumn long. But, now what? Other than the obvious (like eating them), here are some creative things to do with our favorite fall foods.

Apples are up first:

Decorate for Christmas

Dry apples to use as ornaments or strands around the tree! Soak slices in lemon and salt; place on cooling rack in oven for 6 hours at 150 degrees!

Stamp it

Cut your apple in half and dip it in the color of your choice! You can stamp them anywhere, but some of our faves include: a canvass grocery bag, a fancy napkin, or a blank apron!

Sooth your skin

Apples aren’t only great for our bodies, they’re fab for our faces too! Core and peel your apple, grate it up and apply to skin. Add oatmeal for an exfoliating addition!

Light it up

Core out your leftover apples and place tea lights in them. Get creative with showing them off and put them in a basin with water for a floating light piece!

Fill the air

Use dried apple slices to make your home smell inviting and delicious by combining dried apple slices with cinnamon sticks 1 dried lemon slice 1 dried orange slice 1/2 cup whole cloves 1 tbs. nutmeg 1/4 cup whole allspice 1 tbs in a saucepan; add water & simmer!

Use your pumpkins to their fullest:

Cook breakfast

Make pumpkin puree! There are a million uses for this puree but what sounds better than waking up to the smell of pumpkin pancakes on the skillet? To do: cut your pumpkin in half, put the cut side down  in a baking dish with about a cup of water, and bake for about 90 minutes or until the flesh is tender. Scoop the flesh and puree in a food processor or blender. Use your favorite recipes to bake something delicious!

Plant some flowers

Hollow out your pumpkin to add soil and your favorite flowers or plants but still show off your holiday spirit!

Make it a bowl

Use your hollowed out pumpkin inside for a party and turn it into a serving dish! After getting the gunk out, clean it out with water and place plastic liner inside. Fill with treats!

Exfoliate

use your leftover pumpkin puree to make a face mask. Combine it with a few tsp. of brown sugar and milk to exfoliate your skin!

Feed your friends

Your furry friends! Now’s the time to go hiking and camping, so if you’re planning a trip– bring that pumpkin with you! Cut it into smaller pieces and leave some in the woods on your hike. It is the time for giving, isn’t it?
